Urban identity includes the characteristics that distinguish a city from other cities. The issue of urban identity plays a key role not only in identifying cities but also in the process of identifying citizens and strengthening urban culture. The identity bases of cities have been formed under the influence of natural, artificial, human and historical events. These elements play an important role as meaningful signs in reading the meanings hidden in the physical space of the city and understanding the differences and continuity of cities. The purpose of this article is to analyze the explanatory signs of urban identity in Tehran during the Qajar period and how they function. The method of this research is historical-interpretive and based on the approach of urban semiology. In this approach, the existence of signs and meanings of physical elements for reading the environment and understanding the identity-building components of Tehran in the Qajar era has been investigated. The findings of this study indicate that symbolic symbols, due to their historical, cultural and mythological origins, have a greater explanatory capacity in representing the identity components of Tehran in the Qajar era. In the process of semiotics of Tehran urban spaces in this period, some inconsistencies of signification and function can be understood only through historical significations. شهرها همانند آحاد انسانی از هویتی مستقل و متفاوت برخوردارند. هویت شهری دربردارنده ویژگی‌هایی است که سبب تمایز یک شهر از سایر شهرها می‌گردد . مقوله هویت شهری نه تنها در شناخت شهرها بلکه در روند هویت‌یابی شهروندان و تقویت فرهنگ شهری نقش اساسی ایفا می‌کند. شالوده‌های هویتی شهرها تحت تأثیر عوامل طبیعی ،مصنوعی ،انسانی و رویدادهای تاریخی شکل گرفته‌اند. این عناصر به‌عنوان نشانه‌های  معنادار در خوانش معانی نهفته در فضای کالبدی  شهر و درک وجوه تمایز و تداوم شهرها نقش بسزایی دارند .هدف مقاله حاضر  تحلیل نشانه‌های تبیین‌گر هویت شهری  تهران عصر قاجاریه و نحوه عملکرد آن‌هاست. روش این پژوهش تاریخی ـ تفسیری و مبتنی بر رویکرد نشانه‌شناسی شهری است. در این رویکرد حضور نشانه‌ها و معانی عناصر کالبدی جهت خوانش محیط و درک مؤلفه‌های هویت‌ساز شهر تهران در عصر قاجاریه مورد بررسی قرار گرفته است. یافته‌های حاصل از این پژوهش حاکی از آن است که نشانه‌های نمادین به دلیل دلالت‌های تاریخی، فرهنگی و خاستگاه‌های اسطوره‌ای آن از ظرفیت تبیین گری بیشتری در بازنمایی مؤلفه‌های هویتی تهران عصر قاجاریه برخوردارند. در روند خوانش نشانه شناختی فضاهای شهری تهران در این دوره برخی از ناسازه­های دلالت و کارکرد صرفاً از طریق دلالت‌های تاریخی قابل درک است. https://asianculture-artstudies.ihcs.ac.ir/article_10144_aa475604668730af60a0a87cc92604da.pdf
